How to work the flood-lights - Courts 1 and 2
Tokens cost £ 1 and last 30 minutes. You can put as many tokens in at one go as you like - the machine will accumulate the total minutes paid for. Each court has their own meter/flood-lights.
Tokens can be bought from the clubhouse bar when open - normal opening hours Wed from 8pm and often evenings from 8pm at the weekend (though there are sometimes private functions on).
The token boxes are waterproof but please ensure they are closed fully when you have finished your game - the key is on a cable by the boxes.
Insert token in slot in upper right hand side of meter. The clock then counts down to zero. Do not try to put a £1 coin in - it will not fit.
Five minutes before the token is due to run out, a red light on the central light column comes on. There is one red light for each court/set of flood-lights.
Once the light has gone off, even if you insert further tokens (after it has gone off) the light will not re-light for about 10 minutes – the bulbs require to cool down before they will ignite again, this cannot be altered. Don’t be tempted to put another token in immediately after the lights go out because the timer will still run down even though the lights will not reignite until they have cooled down.
So if you wish to insert more tokens then do it before your existing time runs out. The time added (30 mins) will be added to the remaining time on the clock.
If someone is waiting to come on court after you, liaise with them so they can put some tokens in before the lights go out.
Once the lights go out because your time has finished, the lights on one side of the court will remain on for about 2 minutes as a courtesy light for you to get your bag and balls etc together.
The whole electrics will go off completely at 10pm to comply with the planning approval for the lighting. If you have time unspent on the lights, this is forfeited (though the lights will actually go on at approximately 4pm the next day to 'use up' this time).
As the supply of tokens is finite, please do not hoard tokens.
Please report any queries or problems with the lights to the Tennis Committee.
